Imagination Library

One of the most important things we LOVE to share with Parker is reading and exploring books. I know how many wonderful benefits kids gain from books and time spent reading and being read to. I have always loved books and reading, because my parents and family members surrounded me with wonderful books. I have great memories of story time at night, playing library in our basement, reading to my family members, reading to my students, and love reading on my own for fun. Parker was read to in the womb, and LOVES to read now. A few of his favorites are:

"The Very Busy Spider" and "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle

"The Big Red Barn" by Margret Wise Brown

"Green Eggs and Ham" by Dr. Seuss

Parker just got a new book through a wonderful organization called "Imagination Library" which was started by Dolly Parton. Basically you sign your child up (pretty much as soon as they arrive at the hospital up to 5 years of age) and you get sent a free, age appropriate book every month until they turn 5. The First Book is always "The Little Engine That Could." It is pretty awesome because all the books are favorites, or award winners, and they are all hardcover. Not to mention what kid doesn't LOVE getting mail. I know Parker just enjoys the books currently but before I know it he'll be running to the mailbox to check for his book each month. You can find out if your area has this amazing organization and see if you have a local agency who helps support it. If you do, then sign your little ones up!
